Going Vanilla!!

Hello everyone,

Just  a quickie vanilla post. Made me smile anyway. My husband doesn't really talk much about this life, just gets on with it (happily, I think). This week as a present for Valentines

My darling husband said he would paint our bedroom. I have been wanting it done for ages but there always seems something more important to do. Over the last couple of days he has been decorating. We decided to paint three walls in a nice gentle colour and have a feature wall in a darker colour.

All went well until  he started the fourth wall, the one that was going to jazz our bedroom up and turn it into a special place. Hmm, I hated it almost instantly, it was too bright, too bold, too jazzy!!!

"What do you think?", he said "Do you like it?"

"No", I whispered. "It's just not us".

AT that moment our son came for a visit ( dinner actually I think!!). His words on the paint:

"It's not really you two is it? You  are a bit more subtle than that, It's just a bit much...

"Do you think we are boring?" I asked him quite loudly. He was at this point, on a sticky wicket, and in the knowledge that he was hoping I would feed him any minute he tried very hard to say the right thing.

" Oh no not at all, it's just a bit too bright. No mum, but it is a bit tacky for you two, that's all"

He wouldn't think we were boring if he knew what happened in that bedroom but I could hardly defend myself, especially with my husband smirking in the background "Us boring, surely not!!"

So today the room is finished and my beloved husband laughed and said

"Who would have thought it my sweet. Fancy us painting our bedroom VANILLA. Doesn't seem right now in the spirit of our new lifestyle does it? Maybe we should have had a red wall !!!

Cheeky devil, and then he proceeded to give me  my second spanking of the week just to christen our new room!

I am a lucky girl though , what a great Valentines present. I am sure I must have one of these:

I hope everyone is having a good week.

For all my fellow English bloggers I hope you are not suffering with the floods, we are so lucky where we live but it is very distressing to see and I hope you are all safe and well.

lots of love to everyone,

Jan.xx

  1. A vanilla bedroom for you two? Who would have thought it.

We did our bedroom in pale yellow, with the fourth wall sponged over with a slightly darker shade of yellow. Quite nice, if I do say so myself.

The floods sound terrible! Give me snow any day!

    1. Hi Hermione, whoever would have guessed our room was vanilla. I love yellow, our lounge is pale gold/lemon. It's very relaxing

Sounds lovely! I have had that happen too. I will be so certain I love a shade and then... bleh! I need to repaint my son's room for that very reason. Ah, well, in time. Hope you have a wonderful Valentine's day.

  3. LOL Jan!! :) Very cute post. Enjoy your vanilla walls. Not sure that you need a red wall. Sounds like your hubby is taking care of making sure some contrasting colours inhabit your bedroom/bottom! Enjoy. Many hugs,

  5. Cute post Jan. :D So are the walls actually vanilla or are they actually a color? Could you maybe just tone the feature wall down a shade? No matter, it's only paint and can always be repainted. Hope you enjoy your 'new' room...oh and the two of you will keep the room from being vanilla! LOL

Sending lots of prayers and positive thoughts for all those suffering in the flooding!

    Hugs and Blessings...

    1. Hi Cat, it's just a creamy colour, I can't make my mind up now what to do with the other wall. The floods here are ghastly, yesterday we had winds of over 100 miles per hour and even where we live it was pretty bad. Our prime minister is promising help but it's a bit slow getting where it's needed :(

  6. All I can think about is a response to your son: "If you're not busy on Saturday, your dad could use some help installing the swing in our bedroom." =)

  9. What a lovely sentiment! I hope you are able to figure out what accent color works best for you. I'm sure there's enough going on in that bedroom to keep it from being vanilla!

  11. I'm wondering what could make a room look not-vanilla. Bordello wall paper made of red velvet designs on silk print? My mom used that as a feature wall in their master bath over 40 years ago. Umm, think of something else now... Lol!

Which darker color did you try for your feature wall? Perhaps it simply contrasted too much with the soft cream. You might be able to use your base cream paint and add paint tint in the color you thought you would like. It would retain the creamy/light tone and keep the look softer, yet still give you enough contrast to have a focus/feature wall.

It's wonderful your husband did this for you. I hope you have a terrific Valentine's Day!

    1. I used a dark pink BUT when it went on the wall my son said it looked a bit Barbara Cartland( a very pink author in England years ago). I might try a plum or purple but I may just leave my world vanilla for a bit. We are both working on the day but at the weekend we are going to visit our oldest son, very excited about that. Hope your Valentine's day is super too.

    2. Hey Jan...Sometimes if you just put another coat of paint, it will darken up what is already on the wall and take it more romantic. ;) Of course, purple would be awesome!

  13. So cute. ;). So did the paint look as bad dried as it did wet? We have to paint ours at some point too, maybe we'll also have to see how vanilla it should be. )

  14. A vanilla bedroom. Love it.

We are so lucky in our part of the UK. Just a few roads flooded and very strong winds. Our fence blew into the next door neighbours garden. I hope that's the end of it for all those people who have had their homes flooded.

    Love,
    Ronnie

  16. I just found your blog and I love it! What a beautiful and now exciting marriage you have. It's an inspiration really. I had to smile when you said you can only imagine what your son would say if he knew what really went on in your marriage :) I often think about what family, co-workers, friends, etc if they knew how I lived my life. I also find myself looking at people and thinking "Hmmm, I wonder if she gets spanked?"
