Technical Faux Pas!

Hello everyone,

Today has been a flipping disaster and I have been a prize idiot :(

This morning, lounging in bed reading my blogs next to hubby whilst drinking  an early coffee I clicked on The spankings of the week and then popped in to a few. Whilst on one of these sites I must have clicked on some thing I shouldn't. Computer stopped and started bleeping like a damn fire alarm. Now I know I am stupid, I couldn't get out of it and panicking I rung the phone number and then followed instructions. Yes I know NOW that I shouldn't have but it wasn't until too late ( when I rung son number two and got him out of bed with him shouting to turn the damn thing off and he would be round in five mins. It was  scam and well you know the rest....).
At least I didn't part with any money, although I definitely let someone else have access to my computer temporarily. What a disaster. I have been worried all day long.

I have had to stop our bank cards, and my notebook is off to the shop as son ( who works with computers) couldn't fix it :(

Guess who is in big trouble ?

Yep you got it in one.

I have been spanked this afternoon, although he was panicking too and admits he is no better than me. I am allowed to use his laptop very very carefully but to be honest I am a bit scared. I will read my usual friends blogs but I will not stray far and am not sure mine is fixable, son thinks maybe not as it is a few years old anyway.

If I am not about, I am still reading when I can.

Hope everyone has a good week, back soon

love Jan,xx

  1. Sorry Jan, it's easy to do. They make it so damn easy for those of us who are techNOs to go somewhere we shouldn't. Hope it all works out.

    1. Hi Sunny, what a day! First to the bank, cancel the cards, order new ones and then get cash out to tide us over till the new cards come! I took my poorly notebook to the ever patient computer chap and hey presto a few hours later it is all better. I am a bit wary but will be very careful from now on

  2. This is my fear of fears (well, among many). How are we supposed to know what "safe" sites are? Being somewhat new to this community, it scares me. Ug. So sorry this happened to you.

  4. So sorry Jan. I haven't had any problems since I got my Mac. But it's always scary because when we do need help with anything we don't want those helping us to see the sites we visit. Deena, you might want to use the blogroll of someone you trust. I know mine is safe. I won't usually try anything new unless a friend recommends it. Hope all turns out well Jan.

    1. Hi PK, It is so embarrassing when I take it in to the shop. I give him my password and then escape sharpish! I always beg hubby to go and pick it up ,LOL

  5. J,
I agree with PK. Since jumping over to Mac, no problems. Things will calm down.

  6. Jan! I'm so sorry this happened to you but so glad it didn't take place until after you were able to comment on my latest post. It did mean a lot to me. There is a reason we have sons who understand all of this techno stuff. You raised the boy - let him solve the problems and if it can't be fixed, he can help you find something new! Hope the spanking wasn't too bad. Amy

  8. Awww Jan...sorry you had this issue. I have had several talks with my mom about watching where she clicks. She will get impatient and start clicking more and end up clicking somewhere she shouldn't. Congrats on not handing over any money. In the future, never, ever, ever let someone come in on your computer remotely...unless it's someone you know such as your son or a reputable repair shop that you have contacted. Once you get your computer back or get a new one, please make sure you install a good antivirus/antimalware which will help protect you. Sorry you got a sore bum out of this.

    Hugs and blessings...Cat

    1. HI Cat, I am an idiot! The man (boy!) in the repair shop was so sweet about it but I bet he thought daft old biddy! He has fixed it by taking windows off and reinstalling it and extras too. It is speedy now, and I am relieved

    2. Good gravy woman...you are NOT an idiot! These scammers are evil, greedy little b*st*rds who prey on those who are not as knowledgeable. So happy your guy was able to reinstall windows and get you up and running. Take care...Cat

  9. My goodness Jan, how horrible.
I use only my iPad to access 'my' sites in order to keep things away from the family. I believe it takes a bit of getting used to and can be a little more fiddly but I find it works well. I have had very few problems but have encountered the occasional pop up including one that said I had viewed a site which is illegal in this country, the police had been informed and I needed to send £100 fine. I panicked, thought I might lose my job, and then Googled it to discover that was also a scam.
I suppose if the spanking helps you to remember what not to do, it's not a bad thing plus at least you haven't been banned from his computer.

    1. HI Janey, this is the only place I look at blogs, but I do my ebay and a,azon shopping on there. That's why I had to cancel all the bank stuff today. I would have been scared to death if I got what you did. The spanking wasn't too bad. I still feel guilty , maybe it wasn't hard enough :(

  10. Sorry Jan this happened to you. Scammers are evil, I've been caught out by them but luckily didn't get into it too deeply. These days I ask Bear if he signed me up to something before I click on it. Hope your computer can be fixed and you are back blogging again really soon.
Hope John didn't spank too hard for this. Good luck!

  11. Oh Jan so sorry this has happened. Don't kick yourself as it's so easy to do. I had something similar to Janey and an email from a Bank wanting me to me transfer money to another account. It was a scam.

    Hope all is resolved soon.

  12. Oh no! It's so easy to panic and get caught out with these scammers. I'm lucky, hubby is an IT expert, so I just defer to him and he can spot them easily. Hope you get your notebook back.

  13. Oh Jan, I am so sorry for that happening. Hm, those scammers are out to do harm, so actually they should be spanked, not you, but I have been spanked for clicking in the wrong fields too, and it helped me to feel better again. I hope no permanent damage is done due to the computer stuff and you will be back to blogging in no time. Poor you, that those baddies scared you is awful.

The computer was fixed fairly cheaply in the end, I was scare though, thought they had got into the bank stuff , what a nuisance. I am going to be more careful in the future I can tell you. Good luck sweetie, I am thinking about you, wish I could send my dil ( the midwife) to you, she is so lovely!

    2. Hi Jan, I am so glad that things are better again with the computer. What a relief!
Uhm, baby takes her time, very much time. :) We are five days overdue by now, and I am so waiting for labour to start by now. To have your dil as my midwife would be fun, but I would probably give our spanking secrets away, just imagine, I'd be in trouble as soon as she asked where I know you from! 'Oh well, we are both into being spanked ... ooops.' :D

  17. I'm sorry that happened to you - I had the federal warning once and the first impulse is to panic. Luckily I knew for sure that I didn't do what they accused me of and shut the laptop down immediately. Of course later you also realize that the federal police would never act like that.
So next time if something gets fishy, just shut it down immediately and call your son. BTW did he know which site you were on when it happened? That's also my fear, that other people will get to know the kind of sites I frequent... Glad to hear no money was lost.
